In coordination with the US Forest Service, Nevada Offroad Association, Pine Nut Mountains Trails Association, and Friends of Pine Grove, NVFCP is gathering field data for a request to install a buck and rail fence outside the Pine Grove Cemetery. This is an emergency project to stop vehicle traffic in the cemetery itself. The proposed fence will have a number of signs and interpretive panels explaining the importance of the cemetery and why it has been restricted to foot traffic.
NVFCP would like to invite members of the OHV community, Friends of Pine Grove, and volunteer site stewards for the area to come to the site while our staff gathers field data for our report. RSVPs have been limited to 10; however, the site is public and you can come see us anytime we are there.
We will have some volunteer opportunities for folks that want to get involved. (Taking photos and GPS coordinates for identifiable graves near the proposed fence. Placing pin flags along the proposed fence line. We would also like to take some promotional photos of the OHV community being involved in the documentation process.)
NVFCP staff will be driving up from Las Vegas on Saturday, April 2nd and arriving at the site hopefully around 2pm. If fieldwork is not completed before dark on Saturday, NVFCP will have some time Sunday morning to gather more information before driving back to Las Vegas.
Note: All volunteers and visitors are responsible for their own transportation to and from the site and for their own safety and well being during their time there. Be sure to be prepared for the weather and potential vehicle issues.
Field equipment such as GPS units, cameras, and recording forms will be provided by NVFCP.
Each RSVP will be contacted by NVFCP before the outing.
