NVFCP is happy to have Mark Boatwright, BLM Archaeologist, provide a guided tour of Brownstone Canyon. While attendees hike through the wash alongside agave roasting pits, pictographs, and petroglyph panels, Boatwright will provide visitors with insight to the area's archaeological significance. Attendees will also learn of the preservation efforts that are being made to protect this important area.
Brownstone is on the National Register of Historic Places and you will see and learn why.
Note: Moderate hiking required on uneven surfaces on a slight incline through a gravel wash. Distance is about 2 miles round trip. This site is not accessible by paved road, some off road driving will be required. Attendees may drive their own vehicles (4wd high clearance-experienced drivers only) or ride in a BLM or NVFCP volunteer vehicle.
