Take a hike with Archaeologist, Justin DeMaio into one of the premier rock art sites in Southern Nevada, Sloan’s Petroglyph Canyon. You will be able to see over 300 rock art panels with more than 1,700 individual design elements.

This hike is for intermediate hikers and is 4 miles round trip. During the hike we will have about a 400 foot elevation gain. The terrain varies but mostly it is in a sandy wash and through rocky terrain. We recommend you wear closed-toe shoes, bring 2 liters or 64 ounces of water, sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, snacks and a day pack.

We will be leaving the contact station at 10:00 am.

To get to the contact station:

From I-15: Exit St. Rose Pkwy (the exit for The M Resort.) Head east towards The M, and turn right at Las Vegas Blvd. Make a left on Volunteer Ave and a right onto Via Inspirada. As Via Inspirada curves to the east it turns into Bicentennial Pkwy. Near the Albertsons shopping center turn right onto Anthem Highlands Drive then right onto Democracy Drive. Proceed past the Pinecrest Academy school. Democracy Dr is paved only until Via Firenze, but the new unpaved extension is graded and quite passable in any vehicle. Proceed down the extension road, make a left at Nawghaw Poa Rd. Parking for the contact station and trailhead are at the end of this road.

From 215 Beltway: Exit Eastern Ave and head south. Enter Anthem and make a right into Sun City Anthem Drive Make a right onto Bicentennial Pkwy then left on Anthem Highlands Drive and right onto Democracy Drive.

Visitors are asked to help preserve this precious resource. While in Petroglyph Canyon, remain on the trail as climbing on the walls near the rock art may cause damage. Photographs and sketches are great ways to remember your visit, but rubbings are not permitted.  Please do not touch the rock art because contact with the oils in skin will damage them.

There are no facilities for gasoline, sanitation, or potable water in Sloan Canyon NCA. Be prepared to carry out all trash and debris, including toilet paper and other non-biodegradable waste.
